| Bikini - swimwear | ||
| Invented by the French
(1946), Jacques Heim and Louis Reard. The name was derived from a few
small Pacific ocean islands known as the Bikini Atoll. Originally only a women's style but men styles followed and today its a popular swimsuit style in Australia, South America, Africa, the East and Europe, not as popular in USA due to female stereotyping. Men's bikini swimwear are usually identified by high-cut legs, a typical V-shape design with a traditionally thinner side band than Speedo swimwear styles. A skimpier suit, perfect as a tanning swimsuit and best suitable for more athletic built men, meaning that you should be in reasonable shape to wear them. The back can vary from full coverage to Rio or Brazil styles. These swimsuits have sides of less than 1.5
inches, mostly worn for recreational use such as sun tanning to minimize
coverage. Also popular as a posing suit for bodybuilding. Although
posing briefs often provide even less coverage to show more of the
muscle and form. Some great tan through suits for men available as well. As with the Speedo style these suits dry faster than baggy board shorts and offer far less drag in the water. A great suit to tan in and great to enjoy water sports at the beach, also worn comfortably under wetsuits and leisure wear. |

Speedo Style or Slips - Swimwear The Speedo style brief derives its name from the Speedo brand, a well known swimwear brand manufacturing competition briefs and racing swimwear. This style refers to any brief-style swimsuit for men regardless of competitive swimming use or manufacturer. Speedo styles feature a "V-shape" front and
full back providing form-fitting coverage. The swimsuit is normally secured by a drawstring and
has a 2-3 inch side. Most Speedo style swimsuits are made of a nylon and
Lycra/spandex blend and have a front lining. |

|
| Men's Thong Style - Swimwear Probably more popular in Europe for sunbathing in St. Tropez. So If you're prepared to bare your bum cheeks you'll enjoy a swim thong. Usually made of a stretchy blend of nylon and Lycra, with a dual-ply front panel and is available from brands such as Speedo. Pros: If your planning to tan your toned Gluteus Maximus muscles, its either this style or tan through swimsuits that will do the trick. These suits offer good support. Cons: Stereotyping attitudes could give you a few strange looks, but with your self confidence it won't really matter. Other than that; you either like it or don't. Its a style not for the faint hearted, and again probably only best suits men with well toned bodies. |

| Square Cut / Boxer Brief / Bike Short style - Swimwear | ||
| These are body hugging stretch square cut
swimming shorts. Mostly made of a nylon or
Lycra/spandex blend. A good choice, for more modest coverage than the bikini or Speedo styles, and still offers good to reasonable support. Mostly fitted with a drawstring with front lining. Some great brands available here. Fashion wise its much of a boomerang, as these were similar suits were very popular in the late 50's and 60's, This time round we have the benefit of advanced material blends and some inspiring designs. Also available in tan through ranges. Pros: Good support, they mould the
body well. Try a few brands to find the best trunk. You may find some
designs to restricting around the genitals. |

| Board Shorts style - Swimwear | ||
|
Some US men swear by them. They became popular in the USA with surfers
and because of the surfer cult following they are still around today. Probably not a good idea to buy a board short with those scrunched waistbands. Not hip at all! Not everyone is a surfer, so if the shoe fits, wear it by all means. Pros: They offer great coverage so if you are a bit on the heavier side, this is a perfect cut. Drawstring, good coverage, many have zip fronts or Velcro fronts and some have pockets. Cons. They can be heavy, which can get too much on a hot day at the beach and they are not going to get you anywhere in the water fast... Board shorts actually have a lot of drag in the water and take quite some time to dry out after a swim. Not a tanning suit, as only 2/3rds the leg below the knee is exposed to sun light. The tan line you will get...is from the hips all the way down to below your knees....you decide if you want that ... |
